HART: Ridership rates in April 2013 "record breaking"

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) says April 2013 now holds the record for the fourth highest ridership rate in all of HART's history! 

According to a release sent Thursday, April's bus ridership of 1,257,728 is a 6 percent increase from the 1,182,531 recorded riders in April 2012.

April 1st may have set the tone for the month's success, as HART reps say it saw the greatest daily ridership of the month with nearly 55,000 riders.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- In honor of Earth Day, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority says high school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for an upcoming summit in Washignton D.C., where they'll have a chance to learn all about how eco-friendly public transportation can be.

The county Planning Commission and the Metropolitan Planning Organization have scheduled the second workshop in their "Plan 2040" series for Tuesday, April 16.

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough Transportation Commission meets this week at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in the 2nd Floor Boardroom at Hillsborough County Center.

Hillsborough County is the only county in the state with a separate Public Transportation Commission. The commission regulates taxi cabs, limousines and wreckers. It also issues permits for life support ambulances in the county.

Tampa Bay, Florida--  The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) invites residents from seven local counties to join in upcoming talks about the region's future transportation plans and priorities.

TBARTA reps say they will host telephone "TownHall meetings" for 10 days starting Monday, April 1.

An automated system will call between 40,000 and 80,000 per night to extend an invite to the forum, and then TBARTA reps will take it from there to answer questions and respond to comments.

Meeting for Bike and Pedestrian Safety

Hillsborough County, Florida -  Hillsborough County will hold three public meetings to discuss proposed improvements to several roads in northern Hillsborough County in order to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety. 

The suggested improvements are being designed by the Public Works Department after these roads were identified by the Metropolitan Planning Organization as high pedestrian and bicycle crash corridors.

The total cost of all nine projects is approximately $8.5 million. Construction is projected to begin in mid to late 2013.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Florida Department of Transportation has announced non-interstate, construction lane closures for this week. 

They are as follows: 

 

Busch Boulevard between Dale Mabry Highway and Armenia Avenue

  • Repaving – Intermittent daily lane closures Monday – Friday between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.

Dale Mabry Highway between Kennedy Boulevard and Hillsborough Avenue
