$6,000 up for grabs: Do you know this man? | News
Tampa, Florida - A man known as the "Seffner bandit" is terrorizing convenience store clerks. He holds them at gunpoint, roughs them up and takes off with the money.
"It's exceedingly frustrating for us. Two robberies is more than we want to see, and this guy is behind 19 of them. Very frustrating," said Sgt. Mike Hurley.
You could be the one with the money if you recognize who this man is. Right now, $6,000 is up for grabs in reward money for anyone who turns this man in to detectives with the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office.
Investigators from Hillsborough County held a news conference Wednesday to talk about this serial robber. They say he's extremely dangerous, and in the past two years alone, he's hit 19 convenience stores in the area of Dover, Seffner and Plant City.
Every time it's the same.
He goes inside wearing a mask, hoodie and gloves. That's the reason its been so hard to figure out who he is.
However, hopefully someone out there will recognize a few traits. The Seffner bandit has made the same mistake that other criminals constantly make. He's caught on tape committing the crime.
He's a big guy, detectives say, around 260 pounds. He's an African American man in his mid-20s and speaks with a Hispanic accent. Also, he's possibly from the Northeast.
Investigators tell 10 News that a huge clue in this case is the guy's voice. They're hoping someone recognizes it.
The Seffner bandit has been targeting stores owned by families of Indian or Middle Eastern descent and scaring them. This man started his crime spree back in January 2010 and was busy for six months. Then, he stopped for 14 months.
He's back at it again. He hasn't shot anyone, detectives say, but they are worried he will. He screams at the clerks and manhandles them each time, and detectives believe he's operating alone.
Money is clearly his motive, investigators tell us.
If you know who this is, once again, there's $6,000 waiting for you. Call Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
