Hit and run suspect gets lawyer, refuses to cooperate

Sanford, Florida -- Florida Highway Patrol troopers are building a case against the driver involved a fatal hit and run motorcycle crash on I-4 early Sunday morning.

Investigators say witnesses saw a man driving a red Saturn knock a rider off his Harley Davidson motorcycle on westbound I-4. The owner of the car was identified as 23-year-old Victor Salinas, of Seffner, however, investigators are trying to determine if he was indeed the person behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

6 arrested on over 335 counts of child porn possession

Tampa, Florida -- After a two-and-a-half month investigation, six men were arrested on over 335 counts of child porn possession.

The Internet Predator Unit (IPU) of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office conducted the initiative to arrest individuals who engaged in the illegal receipt, possession, production and distribution of child pornographic material.

As a result, the IPU successfully conducted 10 investigations involving individuals in Hillsborough County. A total of 67 computer items and 63 electronic items were seized.

SWAT standoff suspect calls Bubba the Love Sponge

Seffner, Florida -- After a violent episode at a Seffner car dealership Friday morning, SWAT team members were able to the man safely into custody.

Deputies say Corey Dyal went to his friend's business, The Car Store in the 800 block of East Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., and started to act strange.

Crime down in Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office has released that crime in Hillsborough County is down 53.2% since 2007. 

For the sixth straight year, deputies have reduced overall crime in Hillsborough County. With a population in unincorporated Hillsborough County of more than 800,000 residents, the number of victims of  crimes was also reduced from 21,617 in 2011 to 20,072 in 2012. This violent crime rate is the lowest since recording started in 1985.

Gas station robberies plague 2 counties

Pasco County, Florida -- Pasco County Sheriff's deputies are investigating two armed robberies Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the first robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven in the 23000 block of SR 54 in Land O' Lakes. Around 2 a.m., two black men with hoodies and masks reportedly threatened a clerk and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Teacher accused in murder-for-hire plot gets new lawyer

Tampa, Florida -- A former Bloomingdale High School teacher accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill another teacher was back in court on Monday.

James Pepe told the judge he no longer wants Joe Episcopo representing him. The judge appointed a public defender to represent him until a new attorney can take over.
